Brian Eno redeems himself

August 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Ok, I’m not ignorant of Brian Eno’s previous career pre Coldplay, I adore his ambient stuff and Roxy Music are pretty fun. But it is a bit dissapointing that he couldn’t raise them above reasonable mediocrity. Anyway, ever the busybody he’s been working with David Byrne of Talking Heads fame on a new album, the prophetically titled, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.

And it’s pretty damn catchy, as you would expect from a Byrne/Eno colloboration it’s hard to pinpoint exactly. I’d be inclined to simply throw it under the catch all genre of ‘pop’ just for the big chorus and the simple but capitivating melodies. Let’s hope the album is full of numbers like this!

Check it out, once you listen to it once you’ll keep coming back for more.

New Franz Ferdinand – Lucid Dreams

August 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Pretty standard fare for Franz Ferdinand. The same big poppy choruses mixed with that lo-fi guitar sound. It’s nothing radically different but it does sound much better than anything off of ‘You Could Have It So Much Better’ so hopefully it’ll help the band reclaim the ‘Indie-pop’ crown from pretenders such as The Hoosiers and their kin. Their debut was a superb album so I’m sure they have it in them.
