Despite having one of the worst band names possible (beet what?), this is quite good if you’re into lo-fi, fuzz-wrapped rock a la Best Coast/Wavves.
They also happen to be supporting everyone’s favourites weed-addled chanteuse on her upcoming UK tour at the following dates:
November
29 Manchester Sound Control
30 Birmingham Glee Club
December
01 London The Scala
Fancy that.
Slept on this when it came out earlier in the month. It’s nice to hear a non-confrontational M.I.A for a change.

Well, it’s here. Even the most curmudgeonly critic can’t deny it looks stunning. As the enthusiastic guy over here points out, you see ‘so much great cinematography…so many colours, so much symbolism’. You see a lot of stuff, so much pretty stuff.
‘My single favourite scene, I think, is when the ballerinas just go still.’
What out for that part.
Still need more Kanye? There’s another G.O.O.D Friday track. It’s alright.

I was at the recording of this video. It wasn’t a great gig in all honesty, but I’m looking forward to W.A.R whenever it finally drops. Check it out here
And a studio performance of the same track.

The discordant guitar whine, and the shambolic, accented vocals nearly push it over the edge and make it a little too confrontational, a little too cool for it’s own good. But all’s forgiven for that stuttering funk bass line and the Ironside-style siren synths
Edit: It’s a Yoko Ono cover – that explains a lot
MP3: Anika – Yang Yang

Ronnettes-type drum beat, shimmering wall-of-sound production and so on… Riffs on the 60s girl-group sound is probably a style more tired and typical than most types of music blogs try to peddle endlessly as the ‘next big thing’, but this is an earnest, well-executed attempt by someone – Vivian Girls’ Kickball Katy – who knows what they’re doing, and it’s worth listening to as a result.
