M.I.A wants to distract you from how bad her new album is

The guy on the keys is Martin Rev from Suicide, the band M.I.A samples in Born Free, just in case you were wondering why he looks so out of place.

It’s a nice idea for a performance, especially one for a song that relies on samples so much and doesn’t necessarily translate well live – especially on a TV talkshow. But seems like she could’ve had a little more fun with it. The Hipster Runoff comments section had a couple of good ideas:

MIA didn’t take this meme to ‘its logical conclusion’ by losing herself in the mass of clones. Thought she was trying to say something bout ‘who we all are’. She should’ve walked off, but she was happy to stand there and shake Letterman’s hand like all the other pop stars.

Woulda been hella better if the “hefty one” was upfront singin’, and when it finished MIA was just chillin’ on Letterman’s sofa like “Hey yall, f-yall.”

Kinda feel the ‘concept’ behind M.I.A’s performance was ‘half-assed’ like her album … y’all.

In more convincing late-night talkshow performance news, Big Boi’s Shutterbugg sounds better with The Roots and lots of horns.
