Pharoahe Monch – Shine

Good to have Pharoahe Monch back on the scene, picking up where he left off and showcasing intricate internal rhymes. Feels quite sobering to think Desire came out three years ago now. I’d just finished my first year at sixth form; now I’m just about to head into my final year of university.

I feel old.

Erykah Badu ft Pharoahe Monch – The Healer remix

I’ll be honest, I’d never heard of Erykah Badu before I heard this remix, but I just love whatever Pharoahe Monch does, Desire was one of my album’s of 2007. And I’ve since delved deep into his previous solo and group work with Organized Konfusion and it’s all great.

So naturally my ears picked up when I heard of more output from him. I haven’t heard the original yet but Pharoahe’s verses are tight, focused as is usual on politics and society. The whole songs got a nice spaced out, slightly spiritual vibe to it with chimes a low booming bassline and strung out vocals by Erykah.

It should help keep Pharoahe fans busy until his next album release, which hopefully won’t be another 8 years.
